VANCOUVER MORRIS MEN
Cotswold Dances
The Cotswold dances performed by the VMM come from the "standard" sources
including, but not limited to "A Handbook of Morris Dances" by Lionel Bacon,
and "The Morris Book" by Sharp & Macillwaine. For Sherborne, our key source
is the booklet "Sherborne Dances and Jigs" by Bert Cleaver. We were fortunate
enough to have Bert Cleaver visit us in October 2001 and give a Sherborne workshop.
THE DANCES
For 2004, the main Cotswold Morris traditions which the VMM will perform will be Bampton,
Eynsham, Sherborne and Ducklington.
Our style of Bampton is taken from the Bampton Traditional Morris Dancers (the Daniels side). Our "Bampton set" comprises:

- Bobbing Around
- Furze Field
- Jockie to the Fair (a double-side-step jig)

Our style of Eynsham was learnt from the Eynsham Morris Men, with the
particular help (by e-mail) of Mike Heaney. Our "Eynsham set" comprises:
- Eynsham Processional

Our style of Sherborne is taken from the teaching of Bert Cleaver. Our "Sherborne set" comprises:
- The Old Woman Tossed Up in a Blanket

- My Lord of Sherborn'es Jig (a double jig)
Our style of Ducklington is from the dancing of the Mossyback Morris Men of Seattle WA. Our "Ducklington set" is still small, and comprises:
