VANCOUVER MORRIS MEN

Plough Sunday, January 5 2003

Our annual perambulation around Granville Island, Vancouver BC - complete with a Mummer's Play.

"A penny for the ploughboys, only once a year! The bullocks are thirsty and want some beer!"

The Bassingham Wooing Play, where our two Mollies compete for the Fool.....
(Yes, the one in red has her "bastard" baby in tow - that Fool gets around!)

Then we do a few Molly dances, like the "College Hornpipe", to George Green's tune.....

And do a "polka round" (a common feature in many of the dances)....

Sometimes the Molly shows a bit of leg to attract the men (well it is the VMM after all....)

The Lord and the Molly - what a pretty couple!

"Professor" Norma (oops!, sorry make that "Norman") Stanfield who has a "thing" about cross-dressing.
No, that's not his real hair - even if it IS the same colour as his beard.
And, before you ask, that's NOT a pancake on his head either! (Wrong time of the year!)

Then another dance. This one's the "Special"....

And so's this.....

Sometimes we all end together.....

And if we're REALLY good, we can do it twice! Though "King George" on the left looks a bit bewildered....

And all the time, the band is making it's usual din.....

And we end up with a song (and a beer) and a tune (and a beer) back in the pub.
